Toshiba elevators MD
wins prestigious
‘MediaGuild’ award
CHENNAI: Here is one more name selected
by the MediaGuild Selection Committee
for the prestigious MediaGuild
award 2011-12. The 7th MediaGuild for
Recognition goes to M J M. Iqbal who is
resident in United Arab Emirates for the
past 27 years and does service for Tamil
and Tamil society there.
M J M Iqbal, Chairman and Managing
Director of Toshiba Elevators Middle
East, Science writer and author of positive
thinking articles, is a sure friend and guide
for Tamils visiting Middle East.
He hails from Valoothor, Thanjavur in
Tamil Nadu, and after his BE, MBA ,
he started his career with ETA Melco Elevator,
where he rose to become General
Manager. During his service, he built elevators
and lifts in major land-mark buildings
which includes world famous Emirates
Towers, Burj Al Arab and airport1st
Phase in Dubai and earned appreciation
of the Mitsubishi Electrical Corporation,
who gave him ‘golden certifi cates’ for
three consecutive years. He has visited
Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangkok,
Turkey, Russia, Taiwan, Indonesia,
America, etc
He is senior member of America’s frontline
engineering body IEEE (Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineering),
president of Managing Engineers society,
presently Honorary President of Dubai
Tamil Engineers Association; he is regular
contributing writer on science and technology
in newspapers published in Dubai.
Iqbal is Asian Correspondent of the
American monthly magazine “Elevator
World”; he is participating on seminars on
subjects of his profession and on science
and technology, engineering skills; he is
frequently on Dubai Tamil Radio and TV.
Iqbal is author of “Ariviyal Adhisiam”
which includes topics such as wonders
of galaxy, history of Telephone, smart
Robots and it developments; earthquakes
and earth tremor, changes communication
technology brought, truth detecting
machines, stem cell technology, power of
brain, modern methods/practice in medical
treatment and the role of engineering
in it, fl ying cars, alternative fuel, transport
wonders. Most of which appeared
in Daily Thanthi, a leading
Tamil daily, as serial in its
youth supplement. Theses
article got massive attraction
from younger generation
in particular, college
students, higher secondary
students.
For his social, literary,
educational good works
he was honoured with the
title “Samudhaya Sudar”
(Societal Flame), in 2009
in Chennai by the then TN
Governor Surjit Singh Barnala. His
noted quotable quotes are: Love your
work; it will love you,” “Find completeness
in work and discharge it with
total dedication the best,” “Treat work
as worshipable one.”
His article “Love thy Work, it will give
You Peace” made him popular with
youngsters. In his 25 years of literary
pursuit, he penned several articles in
English and Tamil.
He deserves the honour of Media
Guild award, a good selection by the
Selection committee which has been releasing
names one by one for the award,
after careful scrutiny and weighing for
worthiness. So far it has released seven
names, including the present one—
M.J.M.Iqbal.
The names released earlier are: Mr.
Chozha Nachiyar Rajasekar, President
of Tamil Chamber of Commerce; Dr.
Panchavarnam, leading plastic surgeon
who has performed more than 7000
cleft-lip operations; Dr. S M Ramaswamy,
Vice Chancellor of Gandhigram
University for his educational services;
Mrs. Lakshmy Ramakrishnan for her
social awareness on the electronic media;
Madras Medical College Dean Dr.
V.Kanagasabhi and Gujarat based industrial
photographer Parmanand Dalwadi.
Media Guild Chairman plans to honour
about one dozen personalities this
year. We are fl ooded with more names,
and process of picking the worthy ones
is on by the selection committee. The
practice is we receive nominations from
the general public and our newspaper
Chennai Metro readers. We pass on
this to the selection committee, and it is
their burden to make the selection after
careful consideration.
By the time the award distribution date
is fi xed for this year, the selection for
the rest will be made known. Chennai
Metro also fi nds convenient to publish
names of those selected one by one so
that the selected person gets individual
highlight.
